DNA Testing

Genesis 1:27 NIV So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.

I find it odd the number of people who have decided to try DNA testing to better understand their genealogy. I have several of my friends who have bought one or joined one of the many DNA programs. They have encouraged me to do the same. They appear excited about the information they have received and some sharing the results as if they are the gospel truth.

Those of you who know me, know that I am a curious soul, so I decided to check it out. My first stop was what is definition of DNA.

DNA Definition: deoxyribonucleic acid, a self-replicating material present in nearly all living organisms as the main constituent of chromosomes. It is the carrier of genetic information.

OK so that definition almost was enough to make me quit my search and this post, however I pressed on.

My next search was to find out how many different companies offer DNA testing. You could count the major players on one hand. As I began to research each company, the description and terminology were just as confusing. Get this one for this purpose and that one for another purpose. One provided a service that others didn’t while another one explained the reasons why their test was better.

Confused still, I began to read articles that explained the differences for you. Nothing about this search proved to simplify DNA testing for me, however one quote stuck with me from one of the articles I read. “each of the major three vendors provide an ethnicity estimate based on your autosomal DNA test, and each of the three vendors will provide you with a different result. Yep, same person, different ethnicity breakdowns.” 3 test with 3 different results? Really? One writer said he recommended you take every test out and go with the most common results.

Before researching the DNA testing I thought it might be fun to see what the results would be. After doing the research and investigating it a little further, I now believe that it could be just as factual to let someone read my palm or play the childhood game called the paper fortune teller. The Holy Spirit brought me back to today’s scripture and reminded me where I came from. It was free of charge and the Bible is 100% accurate. No need to swab my mouth or send in a hair strand. I may not be able to fill all the leafs on my tree but I know they began with Adam and Eve.

Now don’t take this as a slam to DNA testing. I Simply wanted you to be encouraged. Whether you take a DNA or not, you can be proud of your beginning. God created the first man and woman and we all start there. God loved them so much and He loves you too.

Jesus Loves Me This I Know

Jesus Loves Me

Today’s Truth

Ephesians 3:16-20 I pray that he will use his glorious riches to make you strong. May his Holy Spirit give you his power deep down inside you.  Then Christ will live in your hearts because you believe in him.  And I pray that your love will have deep roots. I pray that it will have a strong foundation. May you have power with all God’s people to understand Christ’s love. May you know how wide and long and high and deep it is.   And may you know his love, even though it can’t be known completely. Then you will be filled with everything God has for you.  God is able to do far more than we could ever ask for or imagine. He does everything by his power that is working in us.

From My Heart to Yours

Probably everyone reading this blog today knows the famous children’s song “Jesus Loves Me”.  The words ring so true to me.  Jesus loves me this I know, for the bible tells me so.   I began to think today about baby Christians as I think about this song.  Do we teach them this song and the truth behind it regarding their relationship with Christ.  DO WE REALLY TEACH THEM???

A long time ago I saw a news report on babies in orphanages in Russia.  The news was highlighting how there were so many babies in Russia in the orphanages that was not enough manpower for the nurses to hold and nurture the babies.  The problem was, according to the media, that in the first year of life the baby needs to be cuddled and talked to if it is to develop properly as a human being.

When someone we know accepts Christ are we doing our part to make sure they are getting the love they need to grow healthily?  Here are some facts about love and how it impacts a both a baby and a baby christian.

1.      He is happier and calmer. A child/baby christian who is loved is at peace with the world, and is able to bear disappointments better. Without love, the world is bleak.

2.      He is more confident of himself. He knows that he is worthy of being loved, and that is a great boost to his self-esteem.

3.      He can form better relationships with others. A loving relationship with the parent/other Christian’s and Christ makes him a kinder, more loving person. Lack of love hardens the heart, and he could become less prone to showing love for others.

4.      Has a positive outlook on life. A child/christian who is loved looks at the world with enthusiasm. He will be eager to try and experience new things.

5.      He will be more responsive to what parents/Christ tells him. Reproaches and scoldings become bearable when he knows he is loved.

The bible is clear that when we are saved we are just babies in Christ.  As a new christian  he has been adopted into God’s family.  Those of us who are more mature in Christ have a responsiblity to care for the new baby christians.  Are we like the nurses in the Russian hospitals doing the best we can to provide what the baby christians NEED only to survive or are we taking the time to show the LOVE that is needed to grow healthy Christians?

Lets Pray:  Heavenly Father, we thank you for the love that you have for us and that you loved us so much that you sent your son to die for our sins.  Help us to Lord to love others as you have loved us and create in us a desire to love and nurture the new baby Christians that you put in our paths.  In Jesus name.

Excited About Church

Psalm 57:7
I Will Sing and Give Praise

Today‘s Truth
My heart is confident, O God.
My heart is confident.
I want to sing and make music. Psalms 57:7 (GW)

From My Heart To Yours
I don’t know about you but I am ready for Sunday morning praise and worship at my church. Even though I had the flu all week and been stuck in bed I can’t wait to sing, pray and fellowship with my Christian family tomorrow.

How are you praising God? Are you spending more time talking about what is going wrong in your life than focusing on what good things God is doing for you? It is so easy to fall into the negative mode. We need to take time to sing God’s praises.

Here are few things that the Bible says about praise in the Psalms:

Psalm 22:25 My praise shall be of you in the great assembly
Psalm 45:17 …the people shall praise You forever and forever
Psalm 71:6 …My praise shall be continually of You
Psalm 119:164 Seven times a day I praise you
Psalm 150:6 Let everything that has breath praise the Lord

Have you been too quite in your praise of God lately. I challenge you to take Psalm 119:164 and use it this week to help you focus on singing God’s praises.

If you are a negative person, and you know if you are, then your task is for every negative comment you make in the next week you have to say 7 good things that God has done for you. The challenge is to do it every time and for an entire week. If you really want to change your habit of being negative take the time to write the negative comments and the 7 good things God has done for you.

Maybe you aren’t a negative person but you have a hard time praising God out loud. Your challenge this week is to find a way to say out loud 7 times a day something God has blessed you with. If you don’t feel comfortable talking to other people about it then start by just saying it out loud to God, your spouse or your pet. The more you praise him out loud the easier it will get. For you to really change your habit I encourage you to write 7 things at the beginning of the day and check them off your list as you say them out loud.

God is so good to us. He has blessed us with salvation, families, food, shelter, health, a church, freedom and the list goes on. We were created to praise Him. Don’t let this week go by without taking time to praise him.

Let’s Pray
Father, we thank you for loving us as you do. Forgive us for the times we fail to praise you. Help us each day to open our eyes to see how you are blessing us. Led us to share your praises with others to help encourage them. In Jesus name. Amen.

Why wait. Is there something you feel led to praise God for now? Share your praise with everyone by leaving a comment below.
