No Perfectionism Today

Romans 3:23 No one is perfect (My version)

Stop being a perfectionist. It really does hinder you and those around you. Make an effort to be easier on yourself!

If God does not expect you to be perfect then why do you have those expectations for yourself? Be careful, because if you are a parent or a leader/manager you may be teaching those who follow you that if you can’t measure up to your standards then maybe they can’t either.

Grow in grace today. Messing up is something we all do. It makes you a better person to fall and get up than to never fall at all.

Two Things Every Dream Needs

dream-1804598_1920

Proverbs 16:9 “The mind of man plans his way, but the Lord directs his steps”

Psalms 37:23-24“The steps of a man are established by the Lord, and He delights in his way. When he falls, he will not be hurled headlong, because the Lord is the one who holds his hand”

Have you ever known in your heart that the Lord was directing to you do something bigger than you thought you were capable to do?  I have.  Actually I am in the mist of that BIG THING right now.  I went through so many emotions before I said yes.  You see I am a bit of a perfectionist.  Those reading this who know me said, “yes you are” as soon as they read that.  I am also impatient.  Once I commit to something I want to get it done NOW.  I am also a planner.

All of these can be good qualities, however they can also be roadblocks. You see if God has directed you to do something you should allow Him to direct your steps.  When we fall, and we may, we won’t stay down because the scripture says he holds us in his hands. You see He has given us the keys to completing the goal, dream, vision, whatever you may call it, in todays scripture.

In pursing every dream you need two things to successfully allow God to direct your steps and to help you with the fear of falling:  Prayer and Patience.  Ok, so number one comes easy for me because I LOVE TO PRAY.  Maybe it is easy for you too.

The second one is the hardest for me.  Patience.  That’s why I need to pray a lot, to pray that God gives me more patience as WE work towards the prize.  I am not sure how confident you are regarding your dream or calling.  If God has ask you do something, then I suggest that you begin every day with prayer, asking Him to direct your every step, every process, every idea as you move forward.

Don’t give up on your dreams if they don’t happen right away or even if you fall.  If you know in your heart that God has called you to do something then just know that He will get you through to it.  Don’t be afraid.  God has great things for you and I know one thing, He is faithful and just.  Go after your dreams and do it right now.  Take that first step right now.  Comment below and share what your dream is and what you are doing to move forward towards it.

We All Fall Down

Romans 3:23 Because all people have sinned, they have fallen short of God’s glory.

I attended a class a few nights ago to hear about a healthy weight loss program. The room was full, mostly of women, who were there to hear that loosing weight was possible for them. The instructor ask the class how many had tried and failed to loose weight and finally given up all hopes that it was not possible. Hands went up across the room.

How many of you have tried to quit ______ sin so many times and so many ways and failed so now that now you have quit trying. Do you feel that you have failed so much that even God is tired of you trying to quit?

The Bible says that all we have all fail and we fail a lot, every day as a matter of fact. No one is perfect, no matter how perfect they appear. Every Christian struggles to be the best they can be for Christ, some just hide their struggles a little better than others. Some struggles can be hidden more than others while others are out front and everyone sees them.

At the end of the class, I saw smiles, including my own and women walking out with HOPE. Today I want to give you hope that no matter how you struggle with your sin that you are not alone, we all struggle. I want to encourage you to keep trying to overcome it, no matter what it is. There is a story in the bible about a young man who left his father, took his inheritance and left home. He failed to make it on his own and went back home, humbly, to his father to ask for help. When he arrived home, his father threw him a party and welcomed him home. If you have quit God because you have quit trying to stop your sin, go home. He is waiting to throw you welcome you home, no matter how long you have been gone.

Be encouraged! You can do it with God’s help. It may not easy, it may not be fast, BUT YOU CAN DO IT.

By Falling You Learn Not To Fall

Job 17:9 The righteous keep moving forward, and those with clean hands become stronger and stronger.

The Bible is filled with stories of people, just like you and me, that have struggled, stumbled, failed and simply just messed up. It’s an opportunity to see the power of God’s great mercy, forgiveness and grace.

We can not stop trying to……you fill in the blank.  If you fall, you learn how not to fall next time.  You change it up and try again.  Maybe you fall again but it takes longer to fall the second time.  Then you change it up again and try it again and you just keep on trying not matter how times you fall.

I think we live in a culture where parents do not allow their kids to fall.  Every one must get a trophy, parents are either over involved with their kids decision making or not involved at all.  Parents say they want to prevent their kids from making mistakes but that is how they learn.  Pain may come with a sin or mistake.  If we have pain then we try not to repeat the action that caused the pain.

Some of you may not agree with spanking but I can assure that it only took a few good spankings to teach me that I did not want those spankings anymore.  As an adult, I am thankful for the spankings.  Why? Because of them I now make better decisions.  I did not want to repeat the pain.  As I got older, I did not get spankings but I never forgot what they felt like and I continued to think hard about decisions that I would make.

Sometimes I failed my parents.  Sometimes I failed at reaching my goals.  Sometimes I failed myself.  There were times I failed as a parent and maybe even as a grand parent. (Probably not so much, LOL)  First time riding a bike, failed. The moral of the story is not about the failures themselves but with each failure I learned something and became better.

Keep trying, even if you fall.  Let your kids fall and be there for them when they do.  Fall so that you learn not to fall and NEVER EVER QUIT!!  Keep falling until you don’t fall  anymore!
